The Pueblo VITA program provides free tax preparation and filing for individuals and families with a household income of $60,000 or less. VITA is an IRS program that was created over 50 years ago as a resource for income taxpayers to prepare their tax returns for free. The goal of the program is to move people to greater economic independence and away from the security services that are used during emergencies. In addition to free tax preparation, VITA works to ensure that everyone in the community gets all the tax credits and deductions they deserve.
The Pueblo VITA program completed 1,938 income tax forms (865 federal and 1,073 state) in 2022 at various locations throughout the community. More than $1,636,923 was brought back into the Pueblo community through refunds and approximately $264,000 was approved in savings to taxpayers. The 2023 tax season will mark 17 years of community service at locations throughout Pueblo County. The Pueblo VITA program includes the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Care Tax Credit, Tax Credit for the Elderly (TCE) as well as tuition and other benefits. important scores.
